US Open Golf – Brooks Koepka pulled away from the field on the last day with a score of -16 to take home the $2 million paycheck to give 8 points to those who picked ‘Other’!
Lions Tour – It is so rare to finish a drawn series we almost didn’t include it as an option in Know Your Sport! NZ took the first game before the Lions rallied to take Game 2 setting up the ‘winner takes all’ Game 3. A 15-15 draw in the final game left many with mixed emotions & first drawn series since 1955.
Wimbledon Tennis – Serena Williams’ pregnancy robbed 3/4’s of our entrants a chance to win points in the Women Singles. Her sister Venus tried to keep the trophy in the family by reaching the final but was comprehensively beaten by Garbine Muguruza 7-5, 6-0 in 77 minutes. In the Men’s event, Roger Federer claimed his 8th Wimbledon title beating Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 in a competition plagued with injuries to the main stars.
The Tour de France is into its final week & anything can happen in the closing stages with huge mountain climbs & time trials to be navigated by Chris Froome & the chasing pack. The event finishes Sunday, July 23rd, in Paris.
As part of the Irish New School, Club & Volunteer Awards for 2017 in conjunction with the Ulster Council and O’ Neills Sportswear we are delighted to announce that we have been named the Overseas Club of the Year for 2017. As you all know our club is growing from strength to strength each year, this is great recognition for all the work that has gone into the club since our inception in 1974. Thank you to the Irish News, Ulster Council & O’ Neills for this award. We look forward to designing our new set of jerseys to be received as part of this award.
We are delighted to announce that Donnellan’s Irish Pub Vancouver is our new sponsor for 2017. We would like to thank all at Donnellan’s Irish Pub for coming on board as our sponsor & we look forward to a great year ahead both on & off the GAA fields.
Details of the 2017 Launch Night at Donnellan’s will be forthcoming!
As we all know the GAA season will be officially kicking-off with the Spring League next week. In the meantime, we are looking to gauge if any of you have any interest in helping out with the Ladies Football team in any way this coming year? Whether that means devoting your time to a few training sessions throughout the summer (even if that’s just to pick-up some cones, help put up nets etc.) or being a key part of our coaching/managerial team for the whole year; we would love to hear from you. Our projected numbers this year are through the roof so we’d love all hands on deck!
Please contact Mandy Doohan or Maria Eviston at firstname.lastname@example.org to further discuss your interest and begin planning the year ahead.
